Can anyone do the testing? No. The people carrying out the PAT Testing must be competent. Our engineers, after carrying out in-house training, are City & Guilds trained in Appliance Testing. Many individuals/companies are not properly qualified to carry out PAT testing including some 'electricians'. Check that they can supply Calibration Certificates, Insurance details, Qualifications etc. This ensures that you as the Duty Holder have taken all possible steps to ensure that the person/company carrying out the appliance testing is competent. Managers of premises have a legal responsibility to ensure that the electrical equipment in their charge is safe. To achieve this level of safety through use of the Code of Practice requires three categories of specifically trained person (in addition to a general awareness by all staff of the dangers of electricity) as follows: (a) managers of the premises The above division of tasks and responsibilities does not presume that one
person may not carry out two or all of the required functions. It is, however, stressed that a
person must be trained in each of the areas and be competent to undertake the work and interpret
the results as appropriate. |
